Julia Query is a psychotherapist, speaker and writer.

Therapist: Query practices narrative therapy with adults and specializes in couples counseling for families with young children. Performer and Speaker: Query’s intelligence and wit quickly engage audiences, and she offers academic lectures, readings, informal discussions, and performative talks on a variety of topics. She has lectured or performed at more than a dozen universities including Harvard, Smith, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Alberta, Canada. Formerly a stand-up comedian, Query’s talks are often as funny as they are insightful, especially when they approach the more tender aspects of life. Query’s performative talks mix humor and compassion and the personal with the theoretical to provide an honest look at difficult topics.

Writer: Query is in the process of writing two books, Inspired by Pema Chodron: Stories of Death, Taxes and Puddle-Jumping is an anthology of intimate stories that illustrate and are inspired by the teachings of Pema Chodron. From the profound to the mundane, the humorous to the heart-breaking, these compelling stories are written by and for those who engage with Ani Pema’s teachings but who are not themselves monks, nuns, or professional dharma teachers.

Query’s experience as a psychotherapist and imperfect person prompted her second book, The Kinder Explanation, an intimate collection of thoughts inspired by her clients, 12-step recovery and Buddhism. More than “case studies,” this book is a mix of insightful observations, personal stories, and useful slogans that offer the reader concepts and tools for having better relationships, for dealing with anxiety and feeling happier.

Query is currently seeking an agent and publisher for her books, and invites interested parties to contact her.

Filmmaker: Query is best known for her film “Live Nude Girls Unite!” documenting the unionization of The Lusty Lady, a San Francisco peep show. The film earned an Audience Award for Best Documentary at the San Francisco Film Festival and is currently being made into a film by Good.
